The stakes

A premium brand growing faster than its platform.

Basecamp is a premium, community-led student accommodation brand - design-led residences with gyms, cinemas and event programmes, built around a GenZ, community-first identity.

Expansion across regions was outpacing the digital platform. Internal teams lacked real content control, the booking journey had to convert across five languages and regions, and real demand was being left on the table.

The ambition

Localise everything, integrate deeply - in four months.

This was an ambition, not a rescue. The difficulty was the breadth of it - full localisation, deep booking-engine integration and a self-serve CMS - delivered inside a compressed four-month window.

  1. 01

A compressed, four-month delivery window, from kickoff to a live multi-market platform.

  2. 02

Full multi-region localisation across five languages and every market.

  3. 03

Custom integration with a purpose-built booking engine - the conversion journey itself.

  4. 04

A CMS the marketing team could run independently, without an engineering queue.

What we built

Three systems, one coherent platform.

01 · Content · SEO · 5 languages

A flexible multi-language CMS

Publishing across 12 cities and 5 languages belongs to the marketing team, with SEO built into the authoring rather than retrofitted, so a new location goes live as a content decision and not an engineering ticket.

The Basecamp site on a laptop and a phone: the other-locations picker filtered by country, and a city stay page on mobile.

02 · Custom APIs · The conversion lever

Custom booking-engine integration

Custom APIs into a purpose-built booking engine - the conversion lever. A smoother, faster start-to-complete journey that turns interest into confirmed bookings.

The Basecamp booking search: location, study term, residents and promo code, and the room-types results it returns.

03 · Secure · Resilient · Built to grow

Scalable, secure cloud infrastructure

Built to grow with the expansion - secure, resilient and ready for the next market, so adding cities and languages never means re-platforming.

The Basecamp platform: the homepage on a desktop display, with the location cards for Aachen, Wroclaw, Copenhagen, Katowice, Dortmund and Potsdam fanned out either side.

Validation

The business went on to be acquired by Xior in a €939m deal that created continental Europe's largest student-housing operator - with the platform among the assets that came across.

Build → Run

Not a one-and-done vendor.

  1. Build

    Discovery & build

Roughly four months: front-end rebuild, multi-language CMS, custom booking-engine integration and scalable cloud infrastructure.

  2. Launch

    Launch

Live across 12 cities and 5 languages, with the marketing team in control of content from day one.

  3. Run

    Ongoing support & partnership

Routine support and maintenance, and the development partner supporting Basecamp's marketing teams as the business grew.

I've had a lot of experience with different agencies over the years, and can honestly say I've been blown away by Touchfoundry, who helped us totally revolutionise the Basecamp business.
